Taylor's First Day of Kindergarten
I really do have the BEST friends EVER! I was surprised with a couple of survival and pampering kits left by friends to help me through Taylor's first day of Kindergarten. My V.T. brought over "Kim's 1st day of school survival kit," which included: a cheery box of tissues-in case I got the blues, a bottle of gatorade to ward off dehydration, pretzels-something salty to remind me to drink to avoid dehydration, Take 5 candybar so that I wouldn't forget to take a break from crying, and a Reader's Digest Laugh Riot to laugh, laugh, laugh. It was just so cute and really made my day. Second, my great friend, Melissa, surprised me with all the must-haves to get through the day. She must know me really well because she gave me the latest issue of People magazine so I can catch up on Britney Spears, one of my all-time favorite candybars, Take5, Oreos, and something salty and sweet! There is nothing I enjoy more than munching and reading some good gossip!
I can't believe my baby is going to Kindergarten! I wanted her to look just right for her first day and spent more time on her hair than she wanted. She kept saying, "why are we doing church hair today?" I just told her this was a special day that required special hair. For those of you who know me, it is very rare that you see Taylor without bows or topsytails in her hair, but this summer I have let it slide a bit and she wasn't too happy to fall back into the "hair" routine.
All summer long we have looked forward to Kindergarten with Taylor's best-friend Avery. A few weeks ago we found out that Taylor had afternoon kindergarten and Avery had morning. We were so sad! Anyhow, to make a long story short...Avery's mom negotiated Avery into afternoon kindergarten AND into the same class as Taylor. It couldn't be more perfect!
We arrived early today to take pictures of this special event!
As all of the students lined up on the black top to walk into the classroom, Taylor was a little nervous, and, as you can tell, wouldn't look at us.
But, finally, we got one last smile and she even blew us a kiss goodbye!
Luke and Blake watched as she walked away...I think Luke was just as excited for Taylor to start Kindergarten as she was.
As she walked away, I admit, I couldn't help it, I cried! I looked at my little baby, whose not a baby anymore and how beautiful, smart, and grown-up she has become and couldn't help it, but cry. When I finally picked her up, she hadn't missed me one bit and was gleaming from all the fun she had on her first day!

Oh, you're such a mom. You looked really good today, by the way. You must be working out more than I am right now. I need to work off the 10 lbs I gained at mom and dad's house... I can't believe Taylor's in kindergarten. It's weird, 'cause I remember being in kindergarten, so Taylor is going to remember this, too.
You ARE such a mom...that's OK...reading your blog made me cry! I can't imagine sending a child off to school...life will never be the same! She looked cute with her "church hair" and I'm so glad her and Avery get to be in the same class! I really like the name Avery...too bad we're probably having a boy! Love ya!
Oh my goodness! Taylor is so big already and looks SO cute! I've gone through the day when Emma will start kindergarten like a million times in my head, and I'm already in tears! My husband was reading this post over my shoulder and said 'well, that won't happen to Emma, because she will never grow up'. :) I guess the thought that we have to go through this thing too some day, just freaks him out. What a wonderful 'survival kit' your friend made for you! A magazine and chocolate. What more would a woman need! :)
Taylor looks so cute!! I'm so glad she had a good first day. Michael's right...she's going to remember this day for a long time. Good thing you have pictures and did the church hair! She'd be mad later on if her hair was all scraggly.
Oh, she looks so sweet. She looks so happy. I bet she will love it.
Congratulations! You made it! I promise it gets easier - you'll practically be shoving the boys out the door when it's their turn. She really is a sweet girl. How did we blink and these girls are FIVE and in kindergarten?
Kimberly,
I can't believe how grown up she looks, and I still can't get over how much she looks like you. I see her and I remember all the times we got to spend together as kids playing and having a great time. It's crazy, she looks JUST LIKE YOU! (smile) it's a good thing because you have always been so beautiful!
anyway- the first day is the hardest, but believe me in a few weeks, may be a few months down the road of driving to drop her off and 2 hours later driving to pick her up everyday, will get OLD! You'll be happy for the day that they can stay all day, (you can get more done at home) and they will have time to learn more at school. The best part will be making lunches for them to take with them. (smile) I'm a little excited for Zack being in first grade...........if you can't tell. (smile)
That was awesome that you got pampered for the occasion, what a cute Idea, and your friends know you well......It must be neat to have such thoughful people all around you. That is such a blessing. (smile)
By the way...that totally looks like a California school campus. I remember thinking, when we first moved to Cali, where's the inside cafeteria for the kids to eat when it is cold outside. Oh yeah...it doesn't get cold there!!!
I almost cried just reading your entry....Ally goes on Monday and I am so sad!! I think I'm going to buy myself a couple of candy bars and some magazines too! Taylor looked so cute! That's great she has a friend in her class.
Kimberly you are so much like your mom and how the firsts are so memorable. I loved the way you received survival kits from your friends how cute is that. You make everyday special for your special children and what an example you are to others. I DID LOVE THE CHURCH HAIR.
