Then and Now

It's hard to believe last year at this time we were living in warm, sunny San Diego! Now that it is snowing and FREEZING cold, I am in complete culture shock!!
Right now I am missing:
  • The Beach
  • Capris and Flip Flops
  • Good Mexican Food
  • A warm day at the park hanging out with friends
  • Christmas Tree Lane
Right now I am greatly disliking:
  • 32 degrees with a wind-chill factor of 15 or less
  • Icy roads
  • Snowy roads and hills that my 2-wheel drive car cannot climb
  • The fact that it takes almost 10 minutes, per child, to get dressed to go outside
  • Ice cold toilet seats and bed sheets
  • Scraping ice and snow off the windshield
However, I am totally LOVING:
  • That it (for once in 6 years) is actually really beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!
  • Watching my babies love the snow and playing in it
  • Kissing their rosy cheeks after coming in from the cold
  • Warm blankets, socks, and hot chocolate
  • Cute, festive storybook and Christmas lights parades in town
It's amazing how much life can change in a year...this year was a drastic one...can I move back now, please?!

I only got one California winter, and I'm never going to be the same. This white stuff and cold business stinks!

Well you wouldn't be at the park or the beach since it has been pouring outside. The snow does look fun even though I have no desire to be in it.

I'm learning to live in the snow now, too. The driving isn't going too well. But at least we can appreciate that it looks like Christmas!

Hang in there Kim! You just need to eat Tim Tams with your hot chocolate. If you haven't heard of those-give me a call. I'll explain. They are only the best thing ever. Hot chocolate will never be the same again! Anyway, I hope you guys have a great Christmas! Love you!

Our daughter Kira is going through the same thing. You need to read the blog she wrote the other day. You can get to it off of my blog. We miss you!

I couldn't imagine Christmas without snow! However driving would be wonderful without any ICE.

I got stuck half way up a hill last week, and started skidding down backwards. I stepped on the brake and the emergency brake hard and stopped in the middle of the road. I wanted to cry. There is nothing like that terrifying and helpless feeling of driving in the snow without proper tires. On the other hand, we are all equipped to ski now. I am looking forward to it.

I don't think it would feel like Christmas without the snow. It looks like your kids are having a great time in the snow. I agree with driving in the ice but I do love the snow. I only wish that it was on the everything but the driveways and street roads.

I already told you about my emotional breakdown while driving in the snow last week...uuuggghhhh! Can I move back with you?

Yeah, where am I supposed to go now in January and February when I need a break from the cold? Cedar City? I don't think so! Well, maybe, but I won't go for a break from the cold, that's for sure!

Brrr...that's kind of a dramatic change. Although, it does look like the kids love it.

That is so funny. I also had quite the shock when we moved to Arizona. Wearing flip flops and shorts while Christmas shopping? Swimming on Christmas day? After
4 years, it still doesn't feel like Christmas around here!

I bet your kids are loving the snow though!

I have to disagree with the best Mexican food being in California. You guys have Cafe Rio. Rubios and On the Border just don't cut if for me. Maybe you have a recommendation. You guys have had a ton of changes. We miss you here too. If it makes you feel any better it was freezing yesterday and poured rain all day.

I'm right behind you!!! Seriously though, isn't snow beautiful?! I wish our snow was like Utah snow. If you were to try to ski on this stuff, it would be like skiing on a snow cone. And driving.....mercy me....forget it!! (Mercy me.....that's southern for ya!)

I actually miss the snow since I have lived in the South ever since getting married 8 years ago. However, I usually get my fill of it for a couple weeks when we visit Utah over Christmas. I think if we ever move back and I have to do an entire winter when it's still snowing in March and all that, I am going to have a culture shock as well. I had forgotten about the cold toilet seats! :) Nothing beats sweaters, warm slippers, and hot chocolate though.

Wow what a difference! I can't imagine how tough it is for you. you have such a good attitude! And you're amazing it only takes you 10 minutes per child to get them ready...I'm still at 20 minutes per kid...then 20 minutes when they come back in...oh, the work...I sure hope they love it!!!

Very clever blog, beautiful pictures, cute kids, great comments. Snow can be so beautiful if you could just look at it and not have to go outside...of course that from an old person, not a kid!!!:)
