Dear friend in need of a coat,
I would like to personally thank you for so kindly taking my daughters brand new coat and leaving her without one. Each day the weather has been getting colder and colder. My daughter was sad, however, I promised her we would buy her a new coat after school.
It's not every day you attend a church function (Christmas church function that is), hang your coat on the donation (oops, I mean)/coat rack and return to find it missing...gone!
Perhaps it was taken by mistake. Perhaps you and your family are in greater need of a new coat at this time. Whatever your circumstances may be...the coat is yours and I hope it serves you well this winter.
It is cold today and snowing. I thought of you. My plan was to go to town to buy my daughter a new coat. To much surprise, a friend, aware of her newly donated coat, bought her a new one and dropped it off at our house. I was overwhelmed by her compassion and kindness. It softened my heart and made me realize there are so many more important things in life than a coat. A coat is just a coat and can be replaced, but human compassion, love, and kindness will last forever!
It's not every day I get to teach my children so many different important life-lessons. Through this experience I have been able to teach them the importance of being honest, compassionate, kind, forgiving, giving service, and much, much more! I thank you for that! My 4-year old is convinced it "could not have been an adult because they know better than that." Isn't child-like innocence a wonderful thing?
Please. Enjoy the coat. It's yours. I hope you like it and I hope it keeps you warm.
Sincerely and Merry Christmas,
Kimberly

That is crazy! Who would have thought that it would be taken at a church thingy, let alone in CEDAR CITY UTAH!!! crazy. Atleast you have a super nice friend.
The saddest will be if you see someone at church wearing Taylor's coat.
Sounds like you've got a great friend, though.
What a cool story, after the fact of course....Its kinda like why we lock up our stuff in another place we know...who would have thought someone would steal in there??? Happens though.
Good friends make such a difference!
Thank heaven for good friends who can turn a sad story into a happy one.
Oh, and I agree with Luke...it couldn't have been an adult, they know better than that!!
So sorry to hear about Taylor's coat!! I am glad that you have a friend that could step in and make this story a good one.
I was so mad when I found out Taylor's coat had been stolen. But it did turn into a great teaching opportunity...of course NO adult would steal a coat, right? Your kids are so sweet! Give them each a big hug for me!
By the way, that kind of reminds me of when my coat was "accidentally" given away. Only I felt guilty going and taking it back from the little girl who probably really did need it. Uuuuggghhh!
That made me so mad...especially this time of year, but who knows what drove whoever did it to do it. Anyway, that's awesome that your friend did that for you, it makes me wish I could've been there to buy the coat. Luke always says the best things.
You know this same thing happened when Kirk was little, it was his new nice parka, mid-winter, at church, very upsetting... we found it months later in the bushes at the church and I think it was kids playing a prank. Not so funny when it is your own. Glad to hear something good did come of it though.
I'm glad that so many lessons could be learned from one incident. It's hard to be charitable when your child is the one going to school without a coat. Sounds like you handled the situation like a pro.
Oh I hope your right. I hope it was just a simple accident and got thrown into the wrong pile...It's funny because Spencer's coat is mysteriously "missing" today too. It was hanging in his classroom and when he went to get it for outdoor gym class...it was gone..hmmmm. Could it be the same thief?
I love your attitude about the missing coat; I can hope I would be so positive.
Luckily you can imagine it is the best scenario. Like someone really poor that needed a coat. That is kind of lame to steal though. I'm glad it had a good ending for you all.
That's really awful. Hopefully some kid took it by accident and the parent just has yet to figure out the owner. I'm so sorry that happened when she obviously needed it so badly. That is amazing that you had a friend that would bring her a new one! You're such a good mom to derive so many lessons from this experience.
I was laughing at Robyn's second comment because it reminded me of the same thing!
Poor Taylor! I'm so happy for you that it turned out to be a good learning experience in the end...bummer way to be learning though!
I just don't know what on earth to say about this!
you summed it up so beautifully and I'm so glad to know that there are such good people in the world still! Sounds like your angels were looking out for you! :-)
The word verification is feelme!
:-) How weird is that?
okay, who would take a kids coat?? What a beautiful outcome to a yucky situation!
