Solution: Taylor must ride the bus to school.
Problem: She is new. She has never taken the bus to school before. She doesn't have very many new friends yet.
Solution: Older cousin, Caleb, can help her not feel so nervous.
Problem: Caleb is 9. He is a boy. Emotions and little girls feeling nervous aren't his expertise!
Solution: To ease Taylors anxieties about riding the bus, I will drive and follow the bus all. the. way. to. school. the first day.
Side Note: I never knew a bus could make so many stops in such a short amount of time and had no idea how fast bus drivers drive through, somewhat, rural/residential areas.
Problem: Now I have to get Taylor comfortable riding the bus home from school.
Solution: Go to school. Pick Taylor up from class and show her where the bus picks up and wait with her in line.
Problem: Caleb and Taylor want me to drive them home. Too bad I say!
Solution: Follow bus all. the. way. home. from school.
Next day: Taylor and Caleb rode the bus together. I didn't even have to follow in my car this time. And, even though Taylor was nervous, she made it home on the bus without me!
Problem solved!

Oh my word, that is so crazy! You are doing awesome...such a cute mom:) I'm sure she will grow to love riding the bus! They say that is the number one thing homeschooled kids say they miss:)
Okay, what we do for our kids. I nurtured and cottled Meghan, and Danny. By the time I got to Jake my attitude was" suck it up and deal with it" maybe that's why he's such a monster! A cute monster that I love though :) It's fun being a mom!
The whole getting the kiddies used to the bus idea is a tricky one! But trust me- it does get better. Good Luck!
You're so funny! I can totally picture you following the bus inconspicuously! Way to go, Taylor!
At least you're in a small town, so you don't have to worry about people thinking you're crazy. Did Taylor stare at you out the window the entire time? Poor girl, she did not look happy in that picture. She looked cute, though, and I can totally imagine her saying "Do I have to ride...?"
PS
I'll check your new blog, but I don't want to scare your readers away by being the only boy in the world who knows about kegel exercises (thanks, Robyn), so I don't think I'm going to comment on it.
Does her bus driver listen to the hard rock station? My sister and I have memories of hearing pretty hard core music on the bus.
Tell her to sit in the back of the bus to have some fun when the bus goes over railroad tracks. I think you have to be bouncing on your bum whilst you go over big bumps. Ha ha they probably don't let you do that kind of stuff anymore.
You are a way nicer mom than me. I've never considered following the bus. Glad she made it!
Wow, that is above and beyond super mom. That is just cute. I always wished I rode the bus when I was in kindergarten so one day I decided to ride it home......hahahaha It's a funny story really.
You are super spy mom!! LOL. I was totally laughing picturing you following the bus. Atleast Caleb was there even though he is a boy, it is someone she knows. I would have hated the bus, but I hated walking too, is there ever a solution??
I never rode a bus and I'm sure I would have been horrified as a child to do so. Taylor is brave and so is her mom. I think I'd be so scared to put my kid on a bus.
Anything for our kids right! Carsten rode the bus last year, it was hard at first but now I miss it. She will do great.
Don't worry kimmy, you're not the only geek out there following the school bus. I did it too on Megan's first day of kindergarten (yes, both ways.) Chris didn't go with me, but there was at least one other car (with both mom and dad) on the road with me that day. Now I ride Megan to and from school on my bike. That's way funner.
Now, you ARE a super mom for following the bus all the way and back.
I rode the bus to school in Provo. I had a driver who I am sure was one of the only non-Mormon in town. She told me that CTR meant "Cat on The Roof" the first time I rode the bus, and went on to say that my primary teacher was wrong. She also smelled like smoke. Funny memories.
That is funny. I am sure that if Connor rode the bus, I would have to follow it a few times too!
What a SMART mommy you are! And you did it all in just ONE day! You are truly amazing! :-)
The bus is the greatest invention ever! It adds a good 20-30 minutes in the morning and afternoon...that's just that much more time I have to get things done! I'm sure Taylor will adjust and LOVE the bus!!!
