My Buddy

For the last two weeks, Luke and I have had the same conversation over and over again...

Luke: "How much longer 'til I go to school?"

Me: "Two Weeks."

Luke: "How much is two weeks?"

Me: "14 days."

Luke: "How much is 14 days?"

And so on, and so on, and so on...12 days later...

Luke: "When do I go to school?"

Me: "Tuesday."

Luke: "When is Tuesday?"

Me: "In two days."

Luke: "Oh. How much is two days?"

Me: (showing with my fingers) "1, 2"

Luke: "Oh, that's not much at all."

FINALLY...two days later...

Me: "Guess what, Luke? You start school today."

Luke: "Yay! What time do I go to school?"

Me: "At 1:00"

Luke: "How long until it's 1:00?"

Me: "Five Hours...after lunch."

For the next five hours, you can imagine how our conversation went. FINALLY, 12:30 arrived and it was almost time to leave for school.

Just as we headed out the door Luke said,

"Mommy, my new school is so cool. But, I'm just going to miss you today. I love you."

Me: (choking back tears) "I love you too, Buddy! I will miss you, but you are going to have lots and lots of fun!"

And, boy did he have fun! What a sweet boy!

Awww...cute little Lukie! He is a really sweet boy. While you were here, we were in the basement, and he occasionally stopped what he was doing to say, "I love you, Robyn." I just love that boy!

What a cute boy! You are so patient to explain the time table over and over! Why is the first day always so emotional? I've always struggled on that first day. Kids look so grown up sitting next to a computer! And now 1 at home every afternoon...YAY!!!

Yeah Luke! A Kindergartener that's so great. A couple of days ago I saw the kindergarteners all lined up outside the school. It was there first day. One particularly small little girl was not happy to be going into the school without her mommy. She was screamming and holding onto her mommy's legs. "No! Don't leave me mommy!" Made me cry a little. I think, in the end, it's so much easier when they want to go. I'm glad he told you he would miss you. Megan did that too and it really helped my heart. Ashely's already started to ask me how many days until she goes to second grade. So there's two things there I have to address every time. Pretty cute.

Emilee was the same way for her first day of school. (Kindergarten) and she still loves it. It is much easier when they are ready to go than when they cry and don't want to.
Happy day, bitter sweet!

Happy first day of school! That is so great that he had a lot of fun. His smile looks just like yours.

Asha still struggles with time. I don't tell her anything until it is really close.

Oh to be in school again, NAW!!! He is super cute and he was always so complimentary when we were there. He always was telling us that Gwenie was really cute.

From the looks of things, that's a pretty prevalent conversation among kindergarteners and first graders. Just wait 'til they realize school is all work...then they'll count down the summer and cry when school starts. That's how it should be, at least.

This is a chapter in your life you will soon look on fondly and think...those were truly the good ole days. Especially when little Luke and his big sis and baby brother are all three running you ragged! He looks so much like you it's crazy what a cute boy! Hopefully he'll keep up that smilin attitude and do well his whole academic life!

This post made me get teary too. It is so fun to watch our kids get bigger but then they start to go to school and become more and more independent. It's like you lose your baby a little at a time. Luke is one of my favorite kids. He is so sweet and loving but also full of so much energy and fun. We miss him and all of you around here.

He is so cute, and his school looks like so much fun!

Max was so excited to go to school, and very excited to go back the next time (Friday). I picked him up and he had these cute red Clifford ears they made, and a Clifford book. I asked him if I could see his ears on and he said, "no, they're so dumb" and I asked if I could see his book and he said, "no, it is so dumb." He then informed me that his preschool isn't really a preschool, because it is just in a dumb house and doesn't even look like a school, and he would rather go to the big school that Annie used to go to:)

I love his school and his teacher, Annie went there and learned a ton and had an absolute blast! It is so funny to me that he is so worried about it being in "some lady's dumb old house!" LOL!!!

it is so fun and sad to watch kids grow up. At least he was super excited so you only had to dry your own tears and not his! He looks so grown up!
