Seriously NOT Domestic or Frugal!

So, like, coming from California, I am so, like, totally not domestic or frugal! Like, just the other day, I was, like, totally meeting up with a new friend, for a play date at the park, and while talking to her, I, like, totally realized that I L-O-V-E...luuuvvv the mall and luuuvvv eating out!

She, on the other hand, like, totally luuvvv's growing a HUGE garden and canning fruits and vegetables all. summer. long. And, they, like totally eat them too! Like, oh my gosh, I was totally exhausted after one day of canning apricots! I mean, it was like totally fun and all, but canning an entire garden...ugh! Good for her, right? That is totally one skill I don't plan to acquire any time soon.

As if canning fruits and veggies all. summer. long. isn't enough, they totally slaughter their own pig and cow every year...ewww! Evidently, it, like totally tastes better than the store bought stuff...hmmm?

I guess if I, like, totally wanted to get started with this lifestyle, myself, she could sell me one of her ranchin' pups that are due in a couple weeks...I will, like, totally have to think about that one...

To sum it up, I guess, I'm like totally not a ranchin', cow herding, veggie choppin', fruit grindin', canning, eat my own slaughtered pig type of girl!

Yep! I admit it, I, like, totally, totally L-O-V-E luuuvvv shopping at the mall and prefer eating my cow through the drive-thru--yep, thank you In-N-Out...that is what a hamburger is all about!

If any emergency should ever arise, I am totally sure that her food storage will taste better than my freeze dried mangos and spaghetti, but I just can't help it if my skills belong at the mall and driving through the drive-thru!

Oh, Kimberly, you crack me up. I am still wiping tears off my face! I do have to tell you that if you live in a small town like me, where the closest Gap is 90 miles away, you do have to start a new hobby... like gardening and canning.

That was like, so funny. I'm like dying over your undomesticatedness...it's like so hot right now! But like seriously...I wish we'd been given the domestic gene...it would sooooo come in handy sometimes!

If it ever gets to the point where I need to garden my own eating and can, we are in big trouble. You are not alone.

That was really funny! I am totally with you. Whenever we have thought about moving, the first question is,"where is the nearest Target or Old Navy." When relocating, most people are concerned about commutes. Not me, I am concerned about great stores. Oh and good food doesn't hurt either! I second your motion on In-N-Out!

Thanks for the laugh!

OMG. That was what I imagine a chapter out of "Sweet Valley High" reads like. I think you should give cow slaughtering a try. Think of all that meat. Then, if you grew your own potatoes, Devon would be set for life.

I'm right there with you! I have no idea how to can, so you're a step ahead of me, but yeah and stuff, but I think my new calling in life will help me work on those kinds of skills....or something. (smile)

About that gene you are deficient in.....SORRY!!! You were totally raised by a mall shopping, fast food eating, manicure, facial, massage getting kind of mom. Spoiled? I like to think not! My BC (before California) life was filled with canning, half beef buying, and garden growing. I just pretty much failed at that and moved to the bright lights and fast paced, shallow kind of life that comes with the concrete city.

I love that you are still a Cali girl! I hope you always stay that way. You never know...maybe you guys will get back to your beach someday. Anyway, it only really matters if you love your family and make them happy! I guess you already saw my post. I'm not even from California but I still miss the beach. Sometimes I seriously think I can not live one more year in Phoenix :) I told Mark that I wouldn't need a big house or nice cars or stuff like that if we could just please move to San Diego someday!

It is crazy to see how differently people live in different places. I start to conform and take on the culture of the people I live around after awhile. The problem (awesome opportunity?) is that I move around so much and am around so many different kinds of people so I don't really know what I'm into anymore. I kind of just try new stuff wherever I'm at and go with what my new set of friends are doing. I guess I get a lot of new experiences I wouldn't have otherwise. Let me know if you ever go for the garden . . .

WOW! I hope your new friend doesn't blog! We did a garden once, it was so much fun and the kids loved it! I'm not so good at canning either. I like to meet new friends that love really different things than I do, I find it interesting to learn how, and why, they do the things they do...very cool! Maybe you should take your new friend to the mall:)

LOL!!! That was a great read!!

So I am not into canning and I so don't have a veggie garden. But I do LOVE planting flowers and we have a lot of flower beds filled w/ flowers. I do however like to go to the church cannery, it so EASY and I have always gone w/ lots of friends.

Living in a small town for the past 8 years has made me not like shopping in malls. I think it's just because it takes to much time and planning. I do love shopping @ Old Navy and Target. (I do have to go to the mall to shop for Shelby).

I am so NOT domestic. I don't saw at all. I sometimes wish I was more domestic but I think I have lots of time to work on that or NOT!!

I dread the day if I'll have to use our food storage. 1) Because I have NO IDEA how to cook with it and 2) I HATE canned and freeze-dried items.

I'll just come hang with you. :-)

I'm with you, friend. If it doesn't come from Sam's Club, it isn't in my food storage. I think we'll be the first to fall in a crisis. You can use our bodies for fuel.

i tried growing a garden... it didn't work too well. i've never canned anything (other than captain crunch and m&m's... that's what i want in a crisis!)

so, i definitely, like, hear ya.

I laughed so hard at you totally - like blog. You just have to get with the new program of food canning and preserving and drying everything that WILL grow and if you have an emergency you can come up to our house that is totally filled with stuff that we have saved since 1970's in BIG CANS THAT I AM NOT SURE HOW THEY CAN BE OPENED THAT WEIGH AT LEAST A HUNDRED POUNDS. BUT WE JUST KNEW WE WERE GOING TO USE. Kimberly I think my gardening days are over because our garden this year is pathetic. At heart I am a City girl and love the malls but the country is still in me. Thanks for a great laugh.

I know, right??? I try so hard to be frugal but when we pass an In-n-Out I'm like "okay we HAVE to stop!" I do alright outside of CA, actually. But when I'm here I just can't help myself!
