The other night, before bed, Taylor was putting her PJ's on and, for whatever reason, was having a hard time putting her PJ bottoms on and said, "Dammit, I can't get these on right."
I couldn't help but smile and thought to myself, "Oh, no, I've definitely said that one too many times lately."
After pausing for a moment, I told her that maybe we shouldn't say "Dammit," rather we should say "Dang-it."
Her response was, "But why?"
"Well, we all make mistakes sometimes, but dammit is a swear word and Heavenly Father has asked us not to swear. So, I think we should try to say dang-it instead."
"Oh, well, you've never told us that before."
"I know. It's okay, you didn't know."
Then, Luke chimed in and said:
"We're not supposed to say dammit because it's a swear word right Mommy."
"Right, Luke."
Two minutes later Taylor said:
"Now, is it dammit or dang-it? I can't remember."
"Dang-it."
"Oh, yeah. I keep forgetting."
Again, Luke said:
"We're not supposed to say dammit because it's a swear word, right Mommy."
"Right."
This continued for almost two hours.
Then, the next day Luke was playing and shouted "DANG-IT!"
Taylor immediately screamed and yelled, "MOOOMMM, Luke just said DAANNGG-IIITTT!"
I said, "That's okay."
.
She said, "Oh, yeah, we're not supposed to say DAMMIT."

Oh my gosh...that's a keeper. Thanks, I needed a good laugh!
I'm glad you had such a good time. The pictures of the kids are GREAT! Also, I'm really glad you were finally able to celebrate Blake's birthday party.
Kids...they say the darndest things! Guess we'd better watch what we say!
Swear words mixed with kids are the best. I secretly miss when Nicky used to say bad things because it made me laugh so much. Your kids already look bigger too. All that fresh hot air out there.
That is the best story. I'm glad I know your kids so I can really imagine Luke saying, "We're not supposed to say that 'cause it's a swear word, right mommy?" So good!
I am so glad that you had a good
4th of July. We love watching fireworks and I lve watching the kids faces everytime they go off. They are so surpised evertime which makes me laugh.
I remember having the whole Dammit or Dang-it talk with my kids. I LOL. Thanks. It is nice to know that we all have those crazy talks with our kids. I have got to the point were I try to say the sillies words instead of a swear word. We have come up with some SILLY word in our house.
Ha ha....that's so funny. It makes me want to swear more in front of Parker just so I can hear him say it....I think it would be hilarious! But maybe not. I'm glad we got to celebrate the 4th and Blake's birthday with you! Taylor also got mad at me for saying "stupid"...oops!
Classic! We had that same scenario at our house about using the Lord's name in vain and having one kid freaking out because the other kid said "God" while singing "I am a child of God". Trying to explain all the times it's appropriate to say something and not say something and actually having the kids remember it can be exhausting! And people wonder what mom's spend all their time doing!! :)
SO SO funny! I love reading this!
Love the pictures too! Too cute!
Cute pictures! Heh heh.. kids are hilarious! Life never gets boring with them.
LOL LOL!! I was laughing tons with that story. I also love the cake pictures, Blake looks just like a dog trying it eat it, so cute!!
So funny about the proposal thing I had forgotten. Brett proposed exactly the same time as we were on out way to see my parents at Cedar for the 4th! So funny.
Dang-It! that was a cute post. It can really wear you out trying to make them understand. Hope you are all getting settled in your city and new life.
Happy Birthday Blake! He is a doll.
Okay so I took a psychology class and (you probably know this)when our kids are babies they have these neuron connections in their brains...I know I know too deep but those make them able to repeat and mimic EVERYTHING we say or that they hear. So obviously that is why they love to say those words. Its bad when they're 6 and still saying them when they think you're not listening :) BTW get those muzzy language tapes, because I also learned that if you don't use those neuron connections by age 7 they lose them and it becomes harder for them to learn a second language... sorry for the long post
That is totally hilarious!! Kids are so funny!!
Holy Cats Christmas! taylor always says the funniest things! I love hearing about stuff like that. I have the same problem and my kids say it too sometimes. Love ya and Happy 4th of July! I love the pics of your kids!!!
Love ya Aimee
That is a very funny story! Sometimes it is so hard to not laugh when the kids are being naughty! They can just make things so hilarious! Thanks for the good laugh!
What a great blog. I loved the way you brought it to their attention and then the best way to say it DANG IT! Blake reminds of your birthday party and Duchess eating your birthday cake. What a disaster that was. I loved the pictures and to know that you had a great 4th of July DANG IT!
That was great! I love stories like that because they do it so innocently. My mom said "Oh Sh_ _" when Kami was 2 and she walked around the rest of the day saying it at the top of her lungs. My mom has a bit of a mouth on her so I am constantly reminder her that there are young ears around who WILL repeat.
Kids are the best!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BLAKE!!!!
The naughty word thing is the story of my life lately with my little Max!!!! He LOVES naughty words, so everything I have told him NOT to say (stupid, dammit, dumb, etc...) he says, then I get mad, then he laughs...IT"S TERRIBLE!!! I really don't know what to do with him anymore!!! I even tried telling him that "fantastic" is a bad word...it only worked for about a week:)
I get the two mixed up as well.:-)
I'm really going to miss those kids. Good thing I can get a small dose on your blog. That's a classic!
That is soo funny! Funnier because that happened with Gavin a few weeks ago with the S word. Not funny at all that this mommy used that language though... I guess they will learn at an early age that parents aren't perfect!
This is the funniest thing I have read in a while!! I'm going to have to share this one with people!
