It's funny how dramatically life changes after having kids. Looking back, it's hard to remember what we talked about or did together before having them.
This weekend away was much needed and it was good to experience being just the two of us again.
It's surprising how much you can do when you're not towing around three little ones with you everywhere you go.
- We saw two movies
- Were able to eat out without feeling rushed to hurry and finish before the kids started getting restless. It's amazing how much greater the food tastes when you actually get to chew AND swallow.
- Shop. Oh, how I miss shopping. Shopping is not the same when you are looking for little ones hiding in the clothes racks, chasing them down the isles, or wrestling with one in your arms while you try to pay the bill.
- Hold hands.
- Stay up late and watch movies without feeling worried about being woken up during the middle of the night.
- Sleep in
- Shower without being interrupted by screaming/fighting children and having to negotiate with them to get along while washing my hair.
- Quiet car rides.

Atleast on Brett & my getaway I took pictures!!! Where are some cute pics??? I am so happy that mom & dad watched the kids for you, you sure are catching up with Ty & Trav. Can't wait to see you guys for Thanksgiving.
I am so jealous. Scott's parents would never do that. Shopping with just my hubby is one of my favorites. Trying clothes on, checking on the new things at the Apple Store, etc. Fun, fun!!
I know! It's amazing what happens when kids aren't around. But tell me, you missed them, didn't you?
Sounds like a dream come true. You don't have to go someplace extravagent to have the R and R you need. I know what you mean about the shower...I can't remember the last shower I took without kids coming in and out and knocking on the door...things just seem to fall apart the second I need to be in the bathroom! You're right...going out to eat is lots more fun when you aren't tackling children all over the table...you actually get to eat your food warm!
And finally, it is truly the irony of it all that we miss them?!!
Sounds like you guys need to get out more often. You know, once you get Blake potty trained, I will baby sit. It only requires a trip up to Provo...
How fun, I'm filled with jealousy! I'm glad that you and your hubby got some R&R.
What a fun trip. It must have really been nice to have a relaxing time. I am jealous (especially with a newborn and a toddler!). You two deserve it!
I think it's hilarious that Michael has restrictions as to when he'll babysit. I mean, really, what kind of uncle is he? What's a diaper change among family? :)
Chris and I have been blessed with a lot of couple getaways when we go to visit family (usually just before or just after a deployment). Chris usually misses the kids a whole lot more than I do because I've had them by my lonesome for the past six months and am AOK with leaving them at Grandma's for a few days.
I'm glad you guys were able to get out and enjoy each other. Couple time is good for the whole family, at least, I know I'm a better mom if I get some date nights out.
It is really weird to be on your own but really nice. Sounds like you had a few days of it. Ours a few months ago was just a night and a morning and coming back in the afternoon. It felt like it went so fast. I worried about the kids the whole time. That's how I knew things were never going to be the same as it was before we had kids. I am so glad you are back to blogging. I was missing your blogs.
I miss my kids too when we leave them (which is pretty rare), but it definitely recharges the mommy in me, and gives our marriage a good boost:) Glad that you had such a great time!
How FUN!!! Steve has been working weekend night for months now so we haven't even had a date night. Can you feel my JEALOUSY?? I am so happy that you had a nice weekend w/o kids. I think we all miss them when we are gone, but the time we can spend w/ our hubby is priceless!!!
Sounds like the two of you had a great time! Glad the in-laws thought of it. You NEEDED a getaway!
How fun. I am longing for the day when Kelly and I can sneak off for the weekend!
I am with you on the shopping thing. I always get this crazy idea that it won't be that bad if I just run into the store for a quick second. I then find myself questioning what ever gave me the crazy notion that this time would be better than the others!
It is always nice to have some quiet alone time every now and then!
Whoa...did Michael just offer to babysit? That's amazing! I'm glad you got to do that...I hope it rejuvenated you for a while!
I am glad you got away for some R&R and Michael offering to babysit is really special.
oh how fun! My last two kids at home are 21 and 17, and I still feel like I need to hurry home!
It is fun though to be able to get away. So glad you had a good time!
How fun for you and Devon. You deserve it!!!
That sounds so amazing! You guys deserved it! It's amazing how much you dream of getting away and then when you do you just want to be with them again.
