Pioneer Day

The last time I remember celebrating the 24th of July, in Utah, I was 13. My friend, Darcie, and I spent the night out on Main Street with my cousins. We had the best time. We were even interviewed by a news reporter who thought we were sisters. The next morning, my aunt and uncle arrived, before the parade, to make us pancakes. I have always loved Pioneer Day, and I am so glad my children got to experience it, first hand, yesterday!

All of the primary children were invited to come dressed in pioneer clothes to ride the float. Grandma made an extra special dress and bonnet for Taylor to wear. She was the most authentic looking pioneer!

That morning, I could not get Blake to change out of his Buzz Light Year PJ shirt. I finally gave up and let him wear it.

Doesn't he look proud?

You can only imagine how excited these two little boys were to see this army tank up close and personal. It is every little boys dream come true! Of course, Luke kept referring to it as a "transformer."
I think every fire truck in town drove down Main Street.
I think Luke's favorite part, other than the transformer, was diving for all the free candy and toys that were thrown from the people on the floats!
Afterward, we enjoyed some shade and the kids ate popsicles until their tongues and faces were blue, orange, and green.
Since becoming a mother, I appreciate our pioneers so much more. I can only imagine how difficult the trials were that they endured and the sacrifices that they made along the way. I am so grateful to them and so happy we could celebrate and honor them yesterday!

I think holidays are one of the funnest parts about being in a small town. The whole community comes to support. Taylor's outfit is soooo cute! And what a good Mom you are to just let Blake go ahead and wear his jammies shirt!

Such fun handcart pictures!!! Looks like you guys had a great holiday!!

wow, how fun for the kids to participate in that! Yeah, the pioneer day celebrations just aren't as big in california. I remember trying to convince one of my former employers here to give me the day off as a religious holiday but it never worked. Blake looks so much older to me. Love Taylor's outfit.

I still miss the UT version of Pioneer Day every year. It's just not the same when you're out of state, is it? Looks like you guys had so much fun.

Oh Kimberly! The pictures of the town! The picture with the fire trucks gives a glimpse of those Southern Utahy mountains/hills. I remember those from Snow College. Maybe you will be like Bella when she moved to that awful Forks and had an adventure. At least it doesn't rain all the time in CC.

Taylor looks so scrumptious in the pioneer wear. Pioneer day is fun in Utah. I think I even used to get the day off work. Funny, there is no mention of it here, even at church.

How cute the kids look and I just love Taylor's pioneer outfit. What a special grandma to make her the outfit and Blake just tickles me with his definite ways and I think that Luke has to be the cutest calling the big tank a transformer. Thanks for sharing.

I love Taylor's pioneer outfit, what fun!! I also Love that Blake is wearing his P.J. shirt, when Braxton was about that age he LOVED Buzz. We had the same problem with this one Buzz shirt I had to hide it so I could wash it. I think Luke might be right I think the tank looks like a Transformer, we LOVE Transformer at our house. Sounds like you had a holiday to remember!!

Taylor is so lucky to have mom around to make all of those cute things, she looks like a true pioneer. One thing nice about Utah is that they do lots of fun stuff like this that you do not get in Cali.

Small town parades are the best, everybody can join in. Nate and Hillary live in Brigham City and they have "Peach Days" in September, every tractor this side of Ogden is in that parade and the kids love it! Taylor looks like a true pioneer, what fun!!

I can just picture Luke looking at that thing and calling it a transformer...too funny!

Pioneer Day was never a big deal for me when I was single and living in Utah. But now that I have kids? I think it would be a blast!
